Responsible Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

The Scientific Journal of Astrobiology follows Elsevier's guidelines on the use of Artificial Intelligence:

The policy on the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing of journal articles, books, and commissioned content aims to provide transparency and guidance to authors, readers, reviewers, and editors. These technologies should only be used to improve readability and language, without replacing key tasks such as producing scientific or pedagogical insights. Human oversight and thorough review are required, as AI can generate authoritative-sounding content that may be incorrect or biased. Authors must declare the use of these technologies in their manuscripts to promote transparency and should not list them as authors. Additionally, Elsevier prohibits the use of AI to create or alter images in manuscripts, except when it is part of the research design, and authors must follow the journal's publication ethics policies.
